Younger Generation Embraces Electric Vehicles and Stand Against Pollution: Gen Z Trends?
Electric Vehicles Gain Popularity Among Generation Z
Generation Z, comprising a quarter of the world's population, is set to make a significant impact on the global workforce, accounting for 75% by 2025. This demographic has shown a particular preference for electric vehicles, according to recent studies.
In the Latin American market, the Nano Box, a model by DongFeng, stands out as one of the most affordable electric vehicles. With a base price of USD 17,990, it offers a range of up to 311 kilometres according to the NEDC cycle. The Nano Box is equipped with a ternary lithium battery of 27.17 kW/h, a motor with a torque of 125 Nm and a peak power of 68 HP. Its interior features a 2.423-metre wheelbase and a 9-inch touchscreen.
Another contender in the electric vehicle market is the Renault Kwid E-Tech. Priced at USD 23,990, it offers a range of up to 298 km and can recharge 80% of its battery in just 40 minutes. Its 7-inch multimedia system is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The Seagull GS 400 by BYD is another option, available at a base price of USD 21,990. It offers a range of 380 km according to the NEDC cycle and features up to six airbags and a high-strength body structure for added safety.
Generation Z finds electric cars attractive primarily because of their design, connectivity features, and sustainability. These aspects align with their values for innovation, digital integration, and environmental responsibility, making these cars not just practical but also expressive of their eco-conscious lifestyle. For young people, a car is not just a means of transport but an extension of their identity.
Ignacio Paz, President of the Uruguayan Automotive Trade Association (ACAU), highlighted this preference at the LATAM Renewables Congress. Antonio Mozas MartΓnez also noted that young people view electric vehicles as a revolution in every sense.
The Nano Box and the Renault Kwid E-Tech are affordable options that cater to the preferences of Generation Z, offering stylish designs, advanced technology, and a commitment to sustainability. The Seagull GS 400, while slightly more expensive, also appeals to this demographic with its safety features and impressive range. As Generation Z continues to grow and enter the workforce, the demand for electric vehicles is expected to increase, driving innovation and competition in the industry.
