In the heart of Nepal, the world's largest independent international development organisation, VSO, continues its mission to create a "World Without Poverty." VSO Nepal is currently seeking highly motivated and passionate young adults between 18 and 25 years old for the International Citizen Service (ICS) program, a volunteering opportunity led by VSO and funded by the UK Government.

The ICS program, running from mid-May to August 2019, is a fully funded volunteering initiative that aims to engage energetic and capable youth in community development and leadership activities. The program is not a paid position, but it offers an unparalleled opportunity for personal development, a stepping stone to future careers, and a chance to make a difference in some of the poorest communities in Nepal.

The ICS program is implemented in Dhading, Changunarayan, Lamjung, Sankhu, and Surkhet. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work closely with local NGO partners, focusing on themes of Inclusive Education and Resilience.

For those interested in Action Learner positions, no specific skills or qualifications are required, but an adequate level of spoken English is preferred. Team Leaders, on the other hand, must have experience working with and supporting youth from a varied background, demonstrate strong leadership qualities, and possess good verbal and written English.

The ICS program promotes intercultural dialogue, sharing, and learning between young people from the UK and Nepal. Volunteers will gain hands-on experience of development work at a grassroots level in a rural Nepalese community. This experience will help them develop confidence, leadership, teamwork, and project management skills.

VSO's approach to fighting poverty is through the lasting power of volunteering.
