"Yusuf suggests that Wikie is deliberately causing instability within the PDP party in order to prevent the emergence of Peter Obi and Jonathan."

In a recent interview on Arise Television's Prime Time programme, political strategist Baba Yusuf accused Minister Nyesom Wike of playing a spoiler game to destabilize the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Yusuf's allegations suggest that Wike's end game is to ensure the PDP remains unstable, making it difficult for former President Goodluck Jonathan or the Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to enter the party as candidates for the 2027 elections.

Yusuf compares Wike's strategy to a "linchpin strategy," a move that has been instrumental in consolidating Wike's power within the party over the past four to five years. The political strategist claims that the PDP had allowed Wike to reach this point, and their inaction can be seen as sleeping on their hands, allowing Wike to become a powerful force within the party.

Yusuf's accusations are not new. He has made similar claims in previous interviews and writings, citing Wike's actions as a linchpin strategy designed to prevent Jonathan or Obi from joining the PDP as candidates for the 2027 elections. If either Jonathan or Obi were to become PDP candidates, their presence would make them formidable opponents for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, the PDP has not elaborated on the reasons they believe Wike is acting in this manner. There is also no specific public information available about individuals who have tried to damage cooperation within the PDP or who have sought to keep Jonathan or Obi away from the party in the 2027 elections.

The PDP elders have boxed themselves into a political cul-de-sac by allowing politics and funding of political parties to be controlled by an individual. This situation has allowed Wike to consolidate his power within the party, making it difficult for other candidates to gain traction.

As the 2027 elections approach, the accusations against Wike will undoubtedly continue to make headlines. The PDP will need to address these allegations and take steps to ensure that their party remains stable and open to all credible candidates. Only then can they hope to challenge the APC and regain power in the upcoming elections.
