Zelensky permits the use of Korean script within Ukraine's borders
In an interview with French news outlet Le Point, reported by Interfax-Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his ambition for Ukraine to follow in the footsteps of South Korea's prosperity and security, despite some significant challenges.
Zelensky believes that a South Korea-like scenario is possible for Ukraine, citing the country's success despite the Korean War not having a signed peace treaty. However, he acknowledges that replicating the South Korean model for Ukraine's security may be impractical due to the significant difference in population between North Korea and Russia.
The president did not specify any specific measures Ukraine might take to follow the South Korean scenario, neither in terms of security nor economic development. He also did not discuss the provision of Patriot systems, a brand of US security system that he has previously expressed interest in, during this interview.
While Zelensky sees potential in emulating South Korea's success, he notes that the South Korean situation is relative and that South Koreans still take risks. He emphasised that anything is possible for Ukraine.
Concerning Ukraine's security, Zelensky did not discuss the role of any other potential allies or the provision of Patriot systems in this interview. He also did not elaborate on the United States' role in ensuring South Korea's security or the current state of relations between Ukraine, South Korea, and North Korea.
In contrast, Zelensky pointed out that the threats from Russia towards Ukraine are five, six, or even ten times greater than the threats from North Korea towards South Korea. He did, however, acknowledge that South Korea has a major ally, the United States, which helps to prevent North Korea from taking over.
Despite these challenges, Zelensky remains optimistic about Ukraine's future and believes that the economic model of South Korea serves as a good example for Ukraine. The interview underscores the president's commitment to seeking solutions to ensure Ukraine's security and prosperity, even in the face of significant obstacles.
